green between- a residency with les ecology + make meadows
One of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the community gardens scattered throughout the East Village. I dream of living above one someday…taking my meetings and morning coffee down in the garden instead of in front of a computer screen. So I was especially excited to be accepted into the Green Between residency with LES Ecology and Make Meadows at Clyde Romero Garden on East 7th Street. In the spirit of gardens and community, I proposed a communal painting project using local natural dyes. I was a little nervous no one would want to partake, but the neighborhood and friends showed up! I especially loved seeing the adults painting just as much as the kids, if not more.
Each canvas is made from raw silk from our studio, dyed with madder and marigold. We then used natural dyes, citrus, and metals to shift and alter the color as we painted together.

The work will be up for three months and is well worth a visit- a little moment of art and nature in the city.
